Rep. Ilhan Omar To Introduce First Bill To Block U.S. Weapons For Israel Since Gaza War Began
The Minnesota Democrat is taking aim at a $320 million package of bomb equipment that the Biden administration wants to provide to Israel’s military.
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) will this week introduce legislation to disapprove of a multimillion-dollar package of bomb equipment for Israel proposed by the Biden administration, a source familiar with her plans told HuffPost ― posing the first congressional challenge to the U.S.’s policy of uninterrupted and expanding military support for Israel amid its deadly campaign in Gaza.
Omar will by Wednesday file a bill known as a “resolution of disapproval” targeting a $320 million sale of gear for precision guidance kits for bombs, the source said, likely with a group of fellow Democratic lawmakers as co-sponsors. If the House of Representatives and the Senate both pass such a resolution, the administration would not be able to transfer the bomb equipment unless President Joe Biden vetoed the bill.If this goes to a vote, https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative is how to find and contact your representative.
This website is too mobile focused these days. Reblog and tell me what your desktop/laptop background is.
in case you needed to hear it today:
- it’s okay to use your turn signal when you’re changing lanes
- it’s okay to use your turn signal when you’re taking an exit
- it’s okay to use your turn signal when you plan on turning (can even be done sooner than 2 seconds before you’re about to turn)
- you have a turn signal. in your vehicle. two of them in fact.
- you are so brave and beautiful and smart and can do it. using your turn signal
everything should cost one dollar, ten dollars, or one hundred dollars. a drinky drink is one dollar. a t shirt is ten dollars. rent is one hundred. i might be convinced to allow one thousand dollars for some very big purchases like a house. i get it, you’re running a business. i’m not unreasonable.
What’s going on in the congo rn is one of many many reasons that the right to repair is a VITAL tenant in leftism imo
At this point smartphones, laptops, and other similar devices are necessary for daily life in the US. Like if I did not have a phone and a laptop, I couldn’t hold down a job, it would be extremely difficult to access public transportation, my education depended upon my ability to access the internet, etc. Tech companies know that their products are indispensable. So do they make products that last? No of course not, they need you buying a new device every two years. That just makes sense under capitalism. But ofc this system spreads far beyond our borders; this system of planned obsolescence is supported by the plunder of the global south for lithium (like in Bolivia) and cobalt (like in Congo).
The imperialist extraction of resources could be challenged if, say, we could repair a device rather than needing to purchase a new one. Companies like apple know this, and have gone out of their way to make such things impossible just to continue making shit products for too much money. It sucks!
can i ask for some reading about what’s going on in Congo and how it’s related to cobalt mining?
Here’s an article that will give you an overview:
